The Liguori pasta factory in Gragnano is among the oldest in Italy, its origins dating back to 1795. Today, as then, we preserve a distinctive method, the result of know-how handed down from generation to generation, called the Liguori Method.
1795
The founder Gaetano Liguori obtained from the Gragnano Town Council the concession to «make and sell macaroni of good quality and of a single type» within his workshop, creating one of the oldest pasta companies in Italy and the world.
1820
Vincenzo Liguori, Gaetano's son, transformed his father's workshop into a factory, officially founding the Liguori pasta factory, and began to use the first human-powered machinery.
These included: Ingegni, i.e. presses first made of wood and then of bronze to extrude the various shapes of pasta through the dies; Gramole to homogeneously mix the semolina with water.
1845
The King of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, Ferdinand Il of Bourbon, after having visited Gragnano and tasted Liguori pasta, granted the pasta factory the privilege of supplying his summer residence, the Reggia di Quisisana in Castellammare di Stabia, with all the long pasta shapes.
1939
Adelina Liguori, one of the first female entrepreneurs of the century, took over the Liguori pasta factory. Thanks to her, the pasta factory took on the name: “Grande Pastificio Elettrico Adelina Liguori e Fratelli”. Under her innovative drive, the "Alba d'oro" pasta brand was established, one of the best known in the entire City of Gragnano and one of the first to impose itself on the national and international market, becoming one of the first brands to be exported to America. Adelina established herself as a pioneer in the pasta industry and achieved such fame that she became the main face of her brand.
1980
Following the Irpinia earthquake that destroyed the historic headquarters in Via Roma, Gerardo Liguori set about reopening the pasta factory at its current location at Via dei Pastai 50. This move from the town centre to the industrial area marked a fundamental turning point in the history of the
pasta factory. The pasta factories in the town centre, in fact, for reasons of space could only spread upwards. In the industrial area, on the other hand, with a structure spread out horizontally, it became possible to dedicate more and more space to production, thus inaugurating a very important industrial hub.
1993
The history of the Liguori pasta factory was restarted by the Casillo family. The Liguori brand, sold in Italy and throughout the world, is characterised by the high quality of its 100% Italian raw materials. The constant search for high quality soon allowed the brand to establish itself as a Made in Italy excellence.
2013
The European Commission conferred PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) certification to Gragnano Pasta. Pastificio Liguori was a Founding Member of the Protection Consortium (founded in 2003) and the first industrial pasta factory to obtain this certification. Since 2013, Pastificio Liguori has been among the largest producers of Gragnano PGI Pasta. Subsequently, in 2019, the Consortium also obtained official recognition of the Protection function.
2019
An important rebranding and restyling of the packaging was launched for Pasta Liguori, characterised by the recovery of the historical logo from the 1950s and the use of the corporate colours - white, blue and red. The pack was also the first made of 100% recyclable paper on the market. Distinctive on the pack are the words “Dried slowly”.

2023
Pastificio Liguori launches a conservative restyling process of the pack, to make the product's pluses, such as the use of 100% Italian wheat from a certified supply chain and slow drying, more immediate and distinctive and, at the same time, to highlight and clearly arrange the year's important innovations: the hours of certified drying, the 100% Italian supply chain secured in blockchain, the phases of the certified Liguori Method, the pack made with FSC certified paper.
